One Pink Velvet Sofa..... Styled three ways
*Sponsored post in collaboration with sofa.com
During the time between selling our house and completing on our new renovation project I spent a ridiculous amount of time on Pinterest dreaming of how I’d like the interiors to be once all the dirty work of building and renovating the house from top to bottom was completed, I found it a much more pleasurable past time than thinking about the latter obviously…..
So when sofa.com contacted me about working with them again and picking a sofa for my new home I headed straight for my ‘Velvet Sofa Inspo’ board on Pinterest and the colour that I was most drawn to was pink….. Now I think pink is a tricky colour to get right on a large piece of furniture…. The brighter and bubblegum pinks, whilst looking great in a colourful, modern home environment, just wouldn’t work with the more scandi, natural look in my home. I knew therefore that I was looking for a more dusky pink if that was the colour I was going to go for.
One of the great things about the sofa.com website is that you can customise your sofa on their site, choosing the style, size, fabric and legs allowing you to see how it looks….. I was immediately drawn to the ‘Saturday’ sofa style with ‘English Oak’ legs and having looked at the dimensions online went for the 2.5 seat sofa which would fit in a few rooms in our new home so would offer versatility.
Next it was about choosing the right colour…. On the website you can choose up to six free fabric swatches, which are all listed by colour, so it’s quick and easy to order them and then have a good look at the colours in your home environment and lighting. Having received the samples I quickly whittled it down to two choices of beautiful dusky pinks… One a linen fabric ‘Blush’ and the other a cotton velvet ‘Orchid’….. Now if you’ve followed me for a while you will know how much I love a velvet sofa, so although it was a tough choice in the end I stayed true to form and went with the ‘Orchid’ velvet, and let me tell you I’m so glad I did it’s absolutely gorgeous and works so well with my other furnishings. I have to say I think it’s the most comfortable piece of furniture I’ve ever owned too…. Which is an absolute bonus as in about six weeks me and Jim will be sleeping on the sofas when the roof comes off the house!
Now whenever I get a new piece of furniture I like to style it up to see which accessories it works best with and of course this was no exception.
So here they are…. Three styles with one pink sofa….
1. A bit of pattern with a nod to the darker side…..
Using a dark patterned curtain and a mix of velvet cushions I added a black framed mirror, black candlesticks, and black framed prints. I think the dark accessories around it really make the pink sofa ‘pop’. The headdress prints and black butterfly prints work really well here and even though there are a few patterns, colours and textures they add up to an eclectic mix, enhancing rather than distracting the eye from the sofa.
Dark blues and greens always work well with pink and putting these colours with the sofa had me thinking that it would look great against a dark blue wall too. My sitting room in our previous house was ‘Hague Blue’ and it’s a colour I love…… ( You can read by blog post on dark blue walls HERE )
2. Scandinavian style…..
For this look I stripped things back a bit and used white and gold. Adding natural textures with the boho cushion, sheepskin, cowhide and shell pendant as well as a single print on the wall which incorporates all the colours. I added a few plants and a gold side table, finishing it off with gold accessories. These colours work beautifully with the dusky pink of the sofa and give a real sense of tranquility to the space….. It makes me feel like I want to curl up on the sofa with a good book.
Just as I’d finished photographing this style I noticed the black ‘this is art’ neon print and popped it in the corner to see how it worked there…. I do like the fact that its a modern print in a restful scheme and therefore adds a new dimension to this nordic style.
3. Back to nature….
As you probably know if you follow my Instagram I love using natural materials in my home and have many, many plants! Knowing how well pink and green go together I thought I’d see how the pink sofa worked in a more rustic style amongst my plants and natural textures such as wood, sheepskin, sisal and jute and I think it works pretty well!
Though the rustic feel of the wooden stars and brown sheepskin may not be the first choice when thinking of styling a pink velvet sofa, I think they look great next to it and along with the plants give a modern rustic feel to what is essentially a classic style sofa.
So there we have it….. One gorgeous, comfy dusky pink sofa styled three ways with things I have in my home. Which is your favourite?
Thanks as always for reading, next up I’m going to be sharing my extension plans on the new house and talking about the ups and downs during the first month of the build.
